BIOGRAPHY

German-Danish mezzo-soprano Laura Hilden is currently studying at University of Music and Performing Arts Munich with KS Prof. Christiane Iven, finishing her master studies in July 2026. Since the 2024/25 season she is, parallel to her studies, a member of the International Opera Studio at Staatstheater Nürnberg. She made her house debut here in the role of the Third Lady in a new production of W.A. Mozart Die Zauberflöte under the baton of GMD Roland Böer. She also appeared as Dama di Lady in Verdis Macbeth and covered Cherubino in a revival of Jens-Daniel Herzog’s staging of Mozart Le nozze di Figaro. In the season 25/26 she will be on stage as Annina in a new production of Verdi La Traviata, in the role of Third Lady (The Magic Flute) as well as smaller appearances in A. Berg’s Lulu, R. Strauss’ Der Rosenkavalier & a children’s opera production.

 

Laura Hilden was born in Copenhagen, Denmark to Danish and German parents speaking both languages as a native from an early age. In Copenhagen she completed pre-conservatory education (Frederiksberg MGK), studying with renowned mezzo-soprano Marianne Rørholm, former voice teacher at The Royal Danish Academy of Music. As of October 2020 she moved to Germany for her studies. in 2024 she earned her bachelor’s degree (summa cum laude) at University of Music and Performing Arts Munich under the guidance of Prof. Daniela Sindram.

In the season 23/24 she performed the role of Olga in a new production of F. Lehàr “The Merry Widow” at Vereinigte Bühnen Bozen (IT). In concert she sang the solo parts of her Fach in Mozart Requiem, Bruckner Messe no. 3 & Bach Johannespassion as well as in "El amor brujo" by Manuel de Falla for mezzo-soprano and orchestra. In July 2024 she was invited to give a series of lied concerts with pianist Gerold Huber at the Danish HICSUM-Festival.

 

In the seasons 21/22 and 22/23 she performed on the main stage at the Bayerische Staatsoper during the Munich summer opera festival 2022 as one of the Ursulinen-sisters in the award-winning production of Krzysztof Penderecki's “The Devils of Loudun” under the baton of GMD Vladimir Jurowski, with Simon Stone directing, and again for the revival of the show in March 2023. At Staatstheater Augsburg she joined a run of the contemporary opera “Angel’s Bone” by American composer Du Yun in Spring 2023 as a part of the Munich soloist vocal ensemble Vokalzirkel.

 

Apart from her love for and main focus on the opera stage, the young mezzo-soprano dedicates herself to the lied/song genre. Together with Danish Pianist Ruben Høgh she was awarded 1st Prize at the Rued-Langgaard-Competition 2022 as a Lied-Duo in Copenhagen and has since been performing at concert venues throughout Denmark, among others at the Rued-Langgaard-Festival.

 

At University of Music and Performing Arts Munich she has been refining her work within the Lied-genre under the guidance of internationally celebrated Lied interpreters Werner Güra, Dorothea Röschmann and Tobias Truniger, as well as at masterclasses with Ian Bostridge. Currently she is being mentored by Lied pianist Marcelo Amaral in Nuremberg and studies in the lied class of Prof KS Christian Gerhaher in Munich. Furthermore she has received major artistic and vocal impulses from Ulrike Sonntag as well as Hedwig Fassbender and René Massis at Exzellenz Labor Oper 2024.

 

In October 2022 she sang the alto voice in the solo-quartet in F. Mendelssohn Elijah at the Isarphilharmonie in Munich with the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra (BRSO) under the musical direction of Duncan Ward.

 

Laura Hilden is a 2023 scholarship holder of the Richard Wagner Society Munich for emerging vocal talent and has throughout her studies received grants from several Danish and German foundations; Wilhelm Hansen Fonden, Augustinus Fonden, Louis-Hansen Fonden, William Demant Fonden, den Bøhmske Fond, Feldthusens Fond, Beckett-Fonden, Lizzi og Mogens Staal Fonden, Holger Larsens Enkes Mindefond, STIBET, Richard Wagner Verband München & Frederik og Emma Kraghs Mindelegat.
